Medical - Medical (general) / pharmaceuticals -- medication containers
Spanish term or phrase: vial
Yes, I meant Spanish to English!

"Cada frasco ámpula/ampolla/vial contiene polvo estéril con 570 mg de [medication] equivalente a 500 mg de [medication]. Además contiene carbonato de sodio anhidro ... "etc.

This is at the beginning of the package insert for this medication.

How are they using "vial" here? I would translate "frasco ámpula" as "vial" (especially since I asked a question about this a year ago) and "ampolla" as "ampule" (although other KudoZ questions say "ampolla" = "vial" also). That leaves "vial" (the Spanish version). What do they mean by vial here? Is there another type of container for injectable medications?

My other option is to leave it off as repetitious, but since there are 3 terms in the description, I want to make sure that I'm not missing something. Or ... ¿are there any other translations for frasco ámpula/ampolla ?

Thanks for your help!

agree  Filippe Vasconcellos de Freitas Guimarães: Yup, though that definition would apply to "ampoule" instead in English.

bottle/ampoule/vial

Explanation:
I know I'm coming in too late here, but according to EDQM Standard Terms (the authoritative source for this sort of terminology, in Europe at least):

frasco = bottle (container with a more or less pronounced neck and usually a flat bottom.)
ampolla = ampoule (container sealed by fusion and to be opened exclusively by breaking. The contents are intended for use on one occasion only)
vial = vial (small container for parenteral medicinal products, with a stopper and overseal; the contents are removed after piercing the stopper. Single-dose and multidose uses are included)

(Ampula appears to be an error.)

Standard Terms is a multilingual (currently 32 languages) online terminology available for a subscription (EUR 72 when I bought it in November, but well worth the money if you're likely to be encountering this terminology.
