For reasons of confidentiality I cannot post an extract from my source text (which is of UK origin), but here's a quote from http://www.keo.co.za/2010/05/15/stormers-vs-bulls-1705-ko/ referring to the result of a rugby match, which uses the expression in a very similar way:

"Those who expected a brutal tussle between South Africa’s super powers bore witness to an **almighty anticlimax**. It’s not that the full house at Newlands expected anything but a Stormers’ win, but the one-sided contest made for a flat end to one of the most competitive league finishes in Super Rugby history."

I need an expression which renders the full weight of the impact of the result on the spectators, for a Southern Cone readership.

I don't think any of the answers really gets across the true maning of 'anticlimax', which is not just a 'decepción' and is certainly not a 'fiasco' or a 'revés'; but 'chasco brutal' does reflect something of the mood of the author.
