Ok, meant to say that I accept that jellabah neckline does get 20,000 ghits but teardrop gets over 1 million and is the correct translation for term asked imo

completely with Gail on this. (D) jellabah +neckline not English collocations. I put info on this in my notes so you could still put teardrop in glossary as normal translation even if using djellabah

we'll have to agree to differ then because I can't remember ever seeing the teardrop at the back! Yes, see what you're saying about upward drop! English (and French) not always logical!:-)

I've seen a couple of examples of "teardrop" necklines with the V at the front, but it seems far more common the other way round. Drops that appear to be falling upwards don't seem very logical to me, so I have a natural resistance to the term used like this, but that's just me! =)

disagree with you. Teardrop/v at front in English as well Look at images. Also, I usually see D in front of jellabah

In English, the teardrop neckline has the rounded end at the front. In French, it's the "sharp end" that's at the front, rounded at the back, giving something more like the jellabah neckline (as Gail suggests). I think you should base the English on the appearance rather than the French term.

It's a collarless v-shape. Teardrop looks round to me.

so, it might be djellabah neckline, (not commonly called this at all) with front slit or keyhole slit or even u slit. However, none of these necklines are as common as teardrop (as evidenced by the amount of minds thinking alike in the short timespace) which is round with a what looks like a "raindrop"(teardrop in English) in the centre of the front neck.
