Abstract

A new type of electric pond saw, which automatically cleans up 90% of its own sawdust when cross-cutting logs in the pond, is to be manufactured by Monarch Forge and Machine Works of Portland, Ore. A box below the chain-saw housing receives the sawdust as the chain cuts through the log. As the box is immersed in the water, the water enters and mixes with the sawdust, acting as a carrying agent. An auger pump pulls the mixture back through the housing into the exhaust receiver beneath the motor. A 4.5-in. hose attached to the exhaust end of the pump, carries the watered sawdust to the waste-conveyor chain where the water is drained and the sawdust conveyed to the burner. The inventors claim that the saw will prevent pollution of lakes and streams used as log ponds and will much reduce the work of dredging and cleaning private log ponds.
