"Entrelacement" should work as it turns up in expressions such as "entrelacement(s) de voix", of which Weelkes does plenty. Titles of pieces and madrigal texts from this period aren't always easy to fathom, let alone translate. Happy singing!

Thanks for the replies, but I've a doubt as to the form being used here...given the rest of the title I'm assuming that 'wreathing is a noun here, given the enumeration. However, I've also found references for the verb 'to wreathe' that say its origin lies in the verb 'to writhe'. The question is how to translate it into French? Wordeffect maybe you would have an idea?

This sense of twisting or entwining was current by the mid 16th century, so appropriate for your text. I think there's a double meaning applied to the music and bodies. The writhing might well take place later!

Wreathing: the action of twisting or contorting, or of entwining or intertwining; an instance of this; something wreathed or twisted.
Maybe this is meant to say that the two players sit close together and that they are leaning over each other now and then to reach different keys?
