German term or phrase: Velours-Granulat-Belag
Description of a tennis court in an indoor tennis centre: "Großzügige 2-Feld-Tennishalle mit ****Velours-Granulat-Belag"****. I have heard of a "granulated surface" but just not quite sure how the "Velours" fits into it.

sand-dressed carpet surface
Explanation:
I've just translated the website of a tennis hotel in Austria and this is what we called it. I've played there too and it is indeed a sort of carpet with lots of sand brushed into it, which you brush after each seesion to make sure it remains distributed. Lovely forgiving surface to play on!

-> Thanks Steffen - hardly! But it does help when you've seen what you're translating!

agree  Steve Yates: You may want to add 'tufted' to distinguish between the two main carpet tennis surfaces, the other one being needlepunched.
