Looking at the sentence as a whole 11:34 Oct 12, 2010
Greetings,
First of all, many, many thanks for some superb answers. It is going to be even harder than usual to select the best one, and please forgive me if I get it wrong as I'm sure I often do.
Just at the moment I'm mulling over Mohammad’s answer, which, I believe, offers a valuable insight into this complex sentence.
Let me offer a rough translation of the sentence, based to a great extent on Mohammad’s valuable suggestion:
But the present book has been written about the roots of Alevism in Anatolia especially with regard to the question of (hope that's okay for به بحث از) the rôle of the Anatolian Alevis with regard to the Safavis and Ottoman policies aimed at rupturing relations between them and the repression of the Alevis supporting the Ardabil tekke (monastery).
Best,
Simon
PS I totally agree that the usual word to be used after ‘rôle’ is ‘in’; the one exception is when it's followed by a single word denoting a person or dynasty etc.. If we wish to use ‘in’ here we must add another word or two: ‘in Safavi tactics’, for example. |
