Asker: Thanks Lianne! I can't quite choose between: "Description of the design in terms of functional critical parameters." or "Functional description of the design with (in terms of?) critical parameters."

agree  philgoddard: "Functionally critical" would avoid having two words ending in "al". Asker - if your second option were correct, the word order would be different.

agree  Jack den Haan: Functionally critical, i.e. critical in a functional sense, covers it precisely. It's the functionality that's critical, not the parameters being functional. Strictly speaking at least ;-)
