Marketing - Business/Commerce (general) / watches
French term or phrase: parti pris
I am translating an interview with the Marketing Director of a luxury watchmaking company. In this part she is talking about the huge success of one of the company´s watches. Not sure what she means by "parti pris" here. Any ideas gratefully received! Thanks.

Explanation:
They defied the trendsetters.

The company did not go along with the ''bling'' trend, but created something they thought was beautiful.

Thanks. I really liked your "defied the trendsetters" explanation and actually used that in my translation as sounded most natural/meaningful in English to me.

A commitment to idea/design (XXX knows how to take an idea and stick with it)

Explanation:
Hello,

The idea is that this artist/designer knows how to create an idea/design and stick with it

parti pris (here) = décision arrêtée (commitment; firm decision)

Nothing to do with "bias", etc.

I hope this helps.
