No estoy segura si así se usa en este contexto. Me suena un poco extraño. Espero comentarios.

Many children are denied their heritage language simply because others tell their parents that the language is “not going to help them in life” and, therefore, is unimportant. Yet when a child integrates his heritage into his life with pride, it leads to an increase in self-esteem and self-worth. And when parents do not pass along their heritage, they run the risk of their child feeling ashamed of where his family comes from.

A muchos niños se les priva de su lengua heredada simplemente porque los demás les dicen a sus padres que ese idioma “no les va a servir en la vida” y, por consiguiente, que no tiene importancia. Sin embargo cuando un niño incorpora su herencia a su vida con orgullo, hace que aumente su amor propio y su autoestima. Y cuando los padres no pasan su herencia corren el riesgo de que su hijo se sienta avergonzado de la procedencia de su familia.
