Portuguese term or phrase: expõe-nos pontos/nós
I really can't work out what is going on here with the / and the nós - can anyone explain the structure to me please! thank you in advance.

exposes (the) constraints

Explanation:
Yes, this has been well characterized. It's about architecture or urban studies, but in a literary vein. No surprise, then, that a literal "translation" will not do. This "ponto/nó" refers to sewing (so the "nó" is actually a knot, not a node). However, it’s not "stitches/knots", because the use is figurative. Rather, it indicates the constrained state of gated communities ("cidade sitiadas"), in contrast with (or in impediment to) the free flow provided by avenues and expressways. Speaking of flow, we ought not to force the "-nos" into the translation. That particle, which flows so easily in Portuguese, would become a heavy "to us", which would ruin the flow in English.

" (a city)… linked by avenues and expressways, exposes the constraints of a "town under siege", in closed neighborhoods which are...
