Italian term or phrase: Ospedale di alta specializzazione e di rilievo nazionale
Dear all,

This appears in a letterhead. I wonder if it would be oversimplifying to say National specialist hospital?

It appears twice, once just as
"Ospedale di alta specializzazione e di rilievo nazionale"

and once as:
"Ospedale di alta specializzazione e di rilievo nazionale per la salute della donna e del bambino"

Grateful for any advice!
Thanks.

Italian centre of clinical excellence

Explanation:
I was going to agree with Oliver's suggestion but there is no reference to it being a hospital.
If it refers to an Italian hospital I think "Italian" would be better than National, although that's just personal preference.
I added clinical to indicate the area of excellence.

agree  Simon Sobrero: Succinct and accurate! If it's "Italian" it must be national and important by default (for Italy).

Nationally renowned specialist(UK)/specialty(USA) hospital

Explanation:
Another suggestion. There are numerous references to this type of hospital both in the UK and USA, among which:
West Research/University Affiliated Cancer Specialist Hospitals
"The University of Washington Medical Center is a nationally renowned hospital"
"While hospitals are generally viewed as local resources, some nationally renowned specialty hospitals compete for patients. These institutions may need to make their brands more visible in the future."
"St. Mark's Hospital is a national and international referral centre for intestinal and ... the UK's only specialist hospital for colorectal disease. .... London Hospitals NHS Trust, is a national and internationally renowned referral"
