Grès cérame : très résistant, le plus utilisé Le grès cérame est fabriqué avec un mélange d'argiles qui sont d'abord pressées avant d'être cuites à très haute température (1200°C). Grès étiré : un aspect plus rustique Le grès étiré n'est pas fabriqué de la même façon que le grès cérame : il est constitué d'un mélange d'argiles et d'éléments minéraux. Après avoir été étiré, ce mélange est cuit à 1300°C. Le grès étiré ressemble au grès cérame mais sa texture est plus grossière, rustique : la dimension des carreaux n'est pas toujours régulière. Il peut avoir différents types de finitions : brut, salé en cuisson ou encore émaillé... Steinzeug ist die Bezeichnung für alle Arten von Tonwaren, deren Scherben beim Brand dichtbrennen bzw. verglasen oder sintern. Die notwendige Brenntemperatur hängt von der Zusammensetzung der Masse ab und liegt in der Regel bei 1200 bis 1300 °C. Scherben und Glasur sind durch den Brand mittels einer Zwischenschicht miteinander verschmolzen. Aber auch ohne Glasur ist Steinzeug nahezu wasserdicht.
