Apparently, it was used for lack of a better word.
Note that "stands" refer to trade fairs, exhibits and the like, so the category is not restricted to exteriors. Perhaps these assorted items could be characterized as "public space" or "environmental" design...

agree  Christopher Rosky: Correct...J.C. Deceaux, 2nd largest company in the world doing this kind of advertising, refers to it as either "Out-of-home" or "Outdoor" Advertising...depending upon the specifics of the installation. As STANDS were mentioned, "Out-of-Home" fits best.
