I also understand your point, Kara, ph.D. Another way of saying of “purchasing” is “buying in = stocking”. As mentioned below, the verb “stock” is defined as well in a database created by a native English speaker.
stock up on to keep for future use or sale; … (syn: buy in)
In this respect, “stocking” holds water as the meaning of “仕入れ”.

I understand your point, Kara,ph.D. It does seem like purchasing, but actually 仕入れ has to do with stocking (getting/being supplied). Stocking is about "amassing so as to keep for future use or sale or for a particular occasion or use" or to "have on hand." Perhaps you can use something along the lines of "being/getting supplied by products" That would conform with the concept of "stocking".... since it is about "amassing supplies." For example: 新しく仕入れたビール　is "new supplies of beer." (supplies is an alternate word for 在庫。

This exactly is my point, but in an opposite meaning. "仕入れ" in my context refers to purchasing of a product from other manufacturer for purpose of selling. It does not matter whether the product is actually "stocked up" or not.

There is nothing wrong with the applying “stock …” to “～を仕入れ（ること）” . The Merriam-Webster’s 11th Collegiate Dictionary defines the verb “stock” as “to lay up in store, as for future use (vt)” and as “lay in a stock of something (vi)”. In addition, the same is defined as “to procure or keep a stock of (vt)” in the Random House Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary. In short, most of goods are procured and laid/kept in stock for future sale.
