Bizarre! I think we need to take into account that some slide switches are indeed just 2-position ones, and hence likely to be used in a simple on/off fashion (i.e. inetrrupteur); but fo course, there are also many 3-, 4- and more way ones, intended for selecting, where 'commutateur' is probably more appropriate.
