Portuguese term or phrase: créditos que X detenha junto à Y
This is in a portion of a contract dealing with terms of payment.

O CONTRATANTE pode compensar todo e qualquer valor devido à CONTRATADA com eventuais créditos que a CONTRATANTE detenha junto à CONTRATADA.

English translation:rewrite phrase
Explanation:
I think it would be clearer if you rewrote the sentence something like:
The contracter can fulfil his liabilities towards the contractee using any amonts the contractee owes the contracter, or something along these lines. I know it's not a direct translation but I hope it can help

Thanks, I agree that a more radical re-write is helpful to avoid any ambiguity.

offset any and all sums owed to xxx with credits it may potentially have against xxx

Explanation:
CONTRACTING PARTY may offset any and all sums owed to CONTRACTOR with credits it may potentially have against CONTRACTOR

I particularly want to point out the proper translation of CONTRATADA. It is never "contractee." There are several ways of dealing with CONTRATANTE. One is "contracting party." Another is "principal." A third is to use the actual name of the company or person who in this instance IS the "contratante."
