Dutch term or phrase: teldatum
The date on which (in Dutch schools) the number of students is counted to determine funding for the following academic year. The word in context: 'In Nederland wordt een andere teldatum gehanteerd.' One search recommended 'record date' but that sounds a bit vague to me. Any ideas???

census date

Explanation:

A provider must set a census date for each unit of study it provides or proposes to provide during a year. This date is the point in time when a student's enrolment in a course and the financial obligations for that course must be finalised.

This may not be the best reference. Look online for "census date" and funding

Asker: Thanks Lianne, I think this may be a typical difference between US and UK English! 'Census' to me suggests something more adult; this actually applies to a primary (elementary) school child - but I'll keep considering it...

As per MyMemory:

each census date shall be determined a posteriori and shall be notified to the producer at the earliest two weeks after it has been determined.

Good point, seemed off to me too. Verginia's answer, count date, seems more appropriate.

Example sentence(s):
  • moet elke teldatum achteraf worden vastgesteld en mag hij niet eerder dan twee weken nadat hij is vastgesteld aan de producent worden meegedeeld.
  • each census date shall be determined a posteriori and shall be notified to the producer at the earliest two weeks after it has been determined.

Asker: Thanks for your quick response Peter; I am not sure whether 'census' would be used in a school context, but you are not the only one to suggest it!

Census Day

Explanation:
If a school considers a student’s regular pattern of attendance was more than their hours on the Census day would indicate (such as a student on holidays overseas or absent because of injury or illness), it can seek special circumstances.
