Giften, legaten en schenkingen... Giften en schenkingen zijn toch hetzelfde of ben ik nou gek? Of hebben ze voor de belastingdienst een andere status? Zo ja, wat is dat het Engelse woord met dezelfde status...

(gifts outright, by Will or) covenanted payment

Explanation:
Partly based on and cribbed off Chris Hopley's (Iedere schenking is een gift maar niet iedere gift is een schenking) and David Walker's (approx. covenanted donations) expositions:

shenkingen swells the estate of the donee and reduces the estate of the donor. If 'charitable giving', this can be done income tax-efficiently to the covenantor/ donor in the UK by a Deed of Covenant charged to the donor's taxable income.

An outright gift doesn't qualify, in the UK at least, for income tax relief and may indeed be hit for capital gains and inheritance tax.

Watch legaat: it's also a gift by will and includes both bequests of chattels (legacies) as well as devises of land, even though coll. a legacy is supposed to cover both.
