tension bars Explanation: Not trusting to answering construction terminology questions by simply looking the word up in a standard, non-specialised dictionary and not knowing how these balconies are constructed, I am reluctant to give my answer a "highest" confidence rating. However, "tirants" are often a component of cantilevered balconies and tension bars fit the bill as being components that contribute in tension to the support of the balcony.
