French term or phrase: dispositif
I am trying to translate the word "dispositif" which comes up many many times in a call for tender document I am translating regarding the production of a t.v. channel. Here are 2 examples:

dispositif de production
le dispositif est constituté de x caméras etc

Could it possibly be something like "brief"? (i.e. "production brief").

Many thanks in advance.

facility
Explanation:
The ubiquitous 'dispositif' so often found in media contacts can very often be translated wth the equally ubiquitous 'facility'.

Note that 'dispositif' often includes not just the equipment but also the way it is configured, the way it fits into the media operation as a whole, and even the people who will make it work.

dispositif de production
le dispositif est constituté de x caméras etc
-->
production facility
the facility comprises x cameras etc

I think 'facility' probably works best here, although I also like set-up/equipment depending on context. Many thanks to all for your help.

device

Explanation:
"dispositif de production" <> "production device"
"le dispositif est constituté de x caméras etc" <>"the device consists of x camera etc."

neutral  Jennifer Levey: In English, 'device' implies a single item, not a collection of items. Since a camera is itself a 'device', it cannot be part of a ... device - it is part of a system (aka a 'facility')

agree  Jim Tucker (X): This or "equipment" depending; yours is probably right as this is still at the tender stage, so the description would be less detailed.

arrangement(s)

Explanation:
That may well work in most if not all situations, but ideally this is an opportunity to "mix and match", i.e. the sort of thing Tr*d*s users etc. hate.

equipment/setup

Explanation:
From the context you provide both "equipment" and "setup" could be used to translate "dispositif" as in

dispositif de production ---> production setup

le dispositif est constituté de x caméras etc --> equipment includes x cameras etc.

IMHO

Hope this helps.
