By "IP", I understand "Intellectual Property", as per example found on the net:

"Allon Therapeutics Inc. (TSX:NPC) announced today that the intellectual property underlying its activity-dependent neurotrophic factor (ADNF) technology platform has been strengthened by the issuance of a Canadian patent covering the chemical composition of the Company's preclinical-stage peptide AL-209 and its use in protecting against Alzheimer's disease and other degenerative diseases."

Tenho certeza que no Brasil existe um estabelecimento governamental dedicado ao registro de “Propriedades Intelectuais”. E suponho que o mesmo ocorre em todos os países do mundo. Entretanto, a questão me parece tratar-se da possibilidade de abreviar o termo acima referenciado. Não sou linguista, mas sou de opinião que você pode abreviar o termo para P.I. desde que em sentenças anteriores você de alguma forma alerte o leitor de que o termo P.I. significa “Propriedade Intelectual”. Além disso, algumas obras literárias possuem um glossário. Este, penso eu, seria o lugar apropriado para que você esclarecesse o significado da abreviatura.

Asker: Mauro, Muito obrigada pela dedicacao. Concordo com suas sugestoes e faria o mesmo. No entanto, trata-se de uma apresentacao do Power Point onde o termo nao se repete. Ainda que se trate de uma apresentacao de ambito interno, para "desencargo de consciencia", mantive o termo por extenso. Obrigadissima.
