То есть промежуточный участок (intermediate longitudinal positions) имеет форму конуса. Я это так понимаю. Да и на картинки похоже.

"По меньшей мере" относится к площади и длине окружности, то есть автор подразумевает, что у поперечного сечения камеры может изменяться и еще что-то.
Да, читается не очень, но это патенты.
