Ein Schreiben ist schon an sich schon etwas Förmliches im Vergleich mit einer mündlichen Äußerung.
"Aufforderungsschreiben" ist zu direkt, sehe ich auch so.
"Einladungsschreiben" finde ich weniger gut, evtl. "schriftliche Einladung", aber das dürfte, wie Olaf selbst anmerkt, eher für die Einladung zu einer Veranstaltung verstanden werden.
Weniger ist manchmal mehr.
