If it's worth that much (I'll take two!), then I think it's also worth probing a bit deeper — like checking up on the reliability of that one EN document... this reeks to me of a poor original translation, and your customer just might have to bite the bullet and accept that their original translation was maybe wrong.

I can't help feeling that 'casket' would be more appropriate here, as in 'a bejewelled casket' etc. — I'm thinking Fabergé, etc.

('thinking' is about as close as I'm ever likely to get!)

Hi Tony,

"Chest" is the word used in the only English document I have found about this item. It is also the word used to describe another similar item, also costing the mere trifle of EUR 150,000....

BTW, I wonder just how you arrive at the term 'chest'? From your description, it sounds more as if this is some kind of presentation 'casket' or 'case' — 'chest' to me suggests something altogether larger and more furniture-like...

I would hazard this translation because the French expression infers that the item is enclosed on all sides.
