Ships, Sailing, Maritime / Damage report
French term or phrase: lest
The full sentence is:
Le lest s'est désolidarisé de son support, tandis que le profil sur la partie inférieure du bord d'attaque présente de traces de chocs et ragages importants.

This is a 42 foot sailing boat. I believe "lest" refers more to a keel than the ballast, since I don't see how the ballast can seperate from its base.

So my attempt at translation this sentence is:

The keel is breaking away from the hull and the side of its lower part of the leading edge of the keel has traces of impacts and considerable scraping.

any suggestions ?

ballast keel
Explanation:

I think "ballast" would probably suffice in the context; but then I haven't read the document

Asker: Thank you. I think it would be keel ballast. They don't give more detail in this section, but later in the document under suggested repairs they say: Désaccoupler le lest de son support afin d'éffectuer le réparations sur sa partie basse

keel weight

Explanation:
It seems to be referring to the 'keel weight', which is at the lowest part of the keel and serves to keep the boat upright (as distinct from ordinary balast which keeps it at the correct height in thw water).
