French term or phrase: couple de puissance
This is about a new cruising monohull

La légèreté est indispensable à la réussite du concept et constitue le fil rouge de la réflexion ; c'est effectivement l'élément critique car plus on est léger avec un couple de puissance donné et plus le bateau accélère

disagree  david young: i hope it's not "torque", cos that a rotary movement, not welcome on a boat; "couple de puissance" is fruitless on google.

agree  Michel F. Morin: David's right: there is no hit for "couple de puissance" on Google, and I believe it's somehow a redundancy. Therefore I do support Emmanuelle's suggestion.

agree  Bourth (X): Yes, I imagine "de puissance" has been added either so people understand it's power or because otherwise there might be confusion with "couple" in a sailing sense (?). A short-stroke engine has more torque than a long-stroke engine of the same capacity.

agree  rogerbaker: I think that the torque couple de puissance surely is the power of the engine turning the propeller shaft, the greater the torque the lighter the hull the greater the speed
