A expressão também existe em português. Fazer finca-pé indica porfiar, fazê-lo com empenho e persistência. Por isso acho melhor traduzir literalmente. Bastante utilizada na Galiza. Senão "... e que se empenha..." parece-me a melhor possibilidade.

De acordo com o dicionário da Priberam e o da Espasa-Calpe:

1. Firmeza que se faz fincando um pé à retaguarda do outro.
