Thanks Luiza. It does seem to be something new. Or at least a new word for it. I remember there was a movement promoting what was called "the continuum concept" when my children were young, to get people to carry their babies close to their bodies for bonding and to give them security rather than consigning them to a pram!

Asker: Apparently the verb "to kangaroo" is very used in this context. I had never heard of it either. It might be a new verb if scientists have only recently discovered the benefits of "kangarooing" premature babies.
