The people of Israel were assured that if they obeyed this commandment it would lead them to a prosperous and lengthy life in the land to which they were going. We must point out that this promise was made to the people as a whole. It meant that if the younger generation learned well from their parents, caused no rebellion, and kept up the well-tried customs, then the nation would survive in security and stability in the land which the Lord would give them.
Teachers can point out that this formula still holds true (Eph. 6.1-3). Societies which respect the parental or previous generation (representing the well-proven knowledge and wisdom of the past) will survive and succeed far better than those where a proud, new generation has thoughtlessly experimented with new and ***untried lifestyles***. To ignore and scorn the advice of history and of experience is generally disastrous.

  -> Muy buen punto. Ahora no se como se puede traducir untried con semas negativos. Se me ocurre "revolucionarios" pero en ese caso sería demasiado negativo (o positivo). Bienvenida a la teoría de la relatividad de las palabras. Haz una propuesta mejor.

Habría que modificar un poco la oración para poder incluir esta traducción. Yo iría más lejos y pondría mejor estilos de vida *arriesgados* o una palabra equivalente, porque creo que ese es el sentido.
