Annak ellenére, hogy a limitationt is gyakran használják, helyesebb a statute of limitations kifejezést használni, mivel a limitation szónak több jelentése van, de a statute of limitation-nek csak elévüléssel kapcsolatos értelmezése (lásd a Magyar-angol-magyar jogi szakszótárt is p. 373).
