pruning saw
Explanation:
I know pruning isn't mentioned, but that's the sort of wood saw that seems to be meant, as pruning saws seems to be in this knife-like shape nowadays, either folding or not so.

Actually, I don't think it's about the handle, but that the blade is designed for sawing smallish branches, as in pruning.

Thanks! I think this one is the best and I believe the word "bois" there is just to say that it has a wooden handle - i'll specify it in my text.

Saw blades could be circular, for use with rotating instruments/machines or linear for use with hand tools to cut wood.

disagree  Chris Hall: "blade" (of a saw) = (une) lame. I fail to understand why you believe as you quote "the question is about the blade" when no reference of blade is even made here...

neutral  B D Finch: I think you have correctly identified what this is, except that it doesn't have to be a folding one. It is all about the type of handle.

-> I suppose so... Thanks for this detail!

neutral  Chris Hall: Not necessarily a folding saw - I agree with B.D. Finch here. As for transworder's comment about the "blade", this comment is completely unfounded and unjustified.

pad saw for wood

Explanation:
These do have the right sort of handle, but the blades are always fairly thin, because they are for sawing out holes, so it might not be right.

Before transworder zaps me too: this is NOT just about the blade and Emmanuelle found a perfectly good picture on a French website. The reason it seems to be called "à couteau" is that the type of handle is an extension of the blade, like a knife handle, rather than the classic type of saw handle.

agree  B D Finch: Yes, this does make the most sense. I think "bois" is about it being a wood saw, as it would seem irrelevant what material the handle was made from.
