German to English translations [PRO]
Food & Drink
German term or phrase: Aufbackwaren
This term comes in a list of different foodstuffs for which a particular company produces packaging.

I have already had the term "Halbbackwaren" which I translated as "half-baked goods". In what way do Aufbackwaren differ from Halbbackwaren - and can anyone think of a suitable translation?

Many thanks in advance!

neutral  Edith Kelly: The problem I have with "home baked" is that "Aufbackwaren" are also prepared i.e. finally baked in shops and supermarkets and then sold as "fresh".

-> then perhaps 'partially baked' or 'pre-made' might fit?

neutral  David Williams: I have to disagree with EdithK. That is certainly not how "Aufbackwaren" is used in the south-west (Rheinland Pfalz/Baden Wüttemberg)

Explanation:
These are bakeries which are baked to the finishing point, such as baguettes and rolls and you simply reheat them in the oven for 8-15 minutes to get them crisp and hot!

Explanation:
How about this as another alternative?

The new products, which include fresh white rolls and so-called "heat and serve" rolls, will be available in Tesco stores.

partially baked

Explanation:
I first thought 'bake-at-home' would be the best choice, but EdithK pointed out that sometimes these items are sold to bakeries/supermarkets. Therefore "partially baked" is a good choice because it doesn't imply where the item should be baked.

Some websites have shortened this to "parbaking" but this term may be unfamiliar to many.
