Hello,

This is a very specific term used in sociology. I really don't agree with the other two translations proposed. The term is indeed difficult to translate into English. It has to do with the re-negotiation of the collective memories of a given people for better integration and the betterment of society. It causes a group of people bonded by ethnicity, religion, to re-examine their past as a whole and see things according to the current values of the society in which they live. The concept is a bit complicated to grasp.

re-negotiation attemps = is a risk (enjeux); it may bring about good things or bad things, but hopefully better integration

collective, faire remonter à la surface des échanges du quotidien, les aspirations etles énergies individuelles et collectives.
