I'm working on a Pasolini film script (unfinished) and have hit 'carrello su' at the beginning of several descriptions in a new scene, i.e.:

– Carrello su una grande villa...
– Carrello sulle cantine...
– Carrello su una casolare...
– Carrello su Gianni...

I was tempted to go for 'pan' in English, but you usually 'pan across', which doesn't work for the last instance. Also, I've never seen 'carrello' used in this way, only things like 'panoramicare', and in this instance, they are all disconnected memories, not things all in the one place.

Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.

moving shot / tracking shot / dolly shot


Explanation:
Generally speaking you want to write 'moving shot' or 'tracking shot'. The problem with 'dolly shot' is that is a term used when the director, in fact, is planning to use a dolly and not something else like a crane or a steadycam.

Pasolini probably wrote 'carrellata su' to indicate a moving shot / tracking shot (in a tracking shot the camera follows a particular character or object as he/it moves along - in a moving shot the camera is gliding over the shooting target to show maybe something else). Pasolini wasn't a cinematographer in a strict sense, although he was very interested in the 'grammar' of filmaking, but more an intellectual and writer. Because of this I would either use moving or tracking shot.
