de fil en aiguille one after the other Explanation: The phrase means one thing leading to another in sequence, almost inevitably, as the thread follows the needle. I would think it is a bit more gradual than 'opening floodgates' though. I would say 'her first design was for ... her daughter. Since then, other designs have followed one after the other', or '...Since then, a succession of designs have followed' - something like that. |
