Thank you/teşekkürler/merci i’ve been giving all the thought i can to understand why it is called a funicular. i could not come up with any reasonable explanation to anyone’s satisfaction, least of all, mine but i should say i took that particular funicular with a bunch of American tourists, trying, as a desperate Parisian, to appreciate their naming behavior and deciphering, in the meanwhile, a shower of different American accents. “Cable car” was the catch phrase. They could have been feeling little bizarre to call it funicular in Paris. Stg. I can only speculate about. I keep on learning, though, about different ways of people: Lesson i took from this discussion is that a funicular can be a “cable car” in English but it is never a “teleferik” in Turkish.
