neutral  ArnoTranslat (X): called off wäre das Gegenteil: abgesagt, rückgängig gemacht, abgebrochen. Called up wird im militärischen Jargon gebraucht (einberufen, mobilisiert)//Thanks, but by your own account, I cannot be absolutely wrong (and I don't want to touch 'availed of').

  -> You are absolutely wrong ... one calls off a meeting - yes, but one also calls off a service - maybe not in US English but definitely in BE / and what about availed of?
