multiple photo frame
Explanation:
cf. Robert + Collins or any decent dictionary

BTW, I think there is a typo in your source text — and pretty sure that should be 'vide poche'!

I think it is highly likely to be the photo-frame variety, given the 'porte-photo' just before it — and the fact that here it only involves decorating these items (hence, not necessarily making them from scratch!)

My conviction is all the stronger because my neighbour's little son has just brought one of these home from school!

I used "multiple photo frame" and award the kudoz for that, but I feel taht "memo board" should also go into the glossary - so thanks for both answers.

Asker: Thanks Sandra - also valid, but I think in this case a more decorative version was probably meant, so I went for the other answers. Thanks for taking the time to repsond.

fabric (covered) memo board

Explanation:
I can't see children making the photo frame version, so it has to be this kind of pele-mele.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yes... which explains why this brain dead translator couldn't find it in her electronic Robert... it is not an intuitive dictionary, spelling has to be perfect... :-( Sorry if I posted a dud!

  -> Yup, sure!

neutral  Emma Paulay: I think that the 'porte-photo' just before makes it just as likely to be something that isn't just for photos. Vide poche has nothing to do with photos, after all. I think it's safer not to specify here.

A Pêle Mêle is a French Memory Keeper. It's a pretty place for photos, cards and mementos: a French memory board!

"memory board" seems a good alternative to photo frame as you can clip / pin on anything that you want

Memory boards are a decorative way to display family photos and mementos.

  -> Hi Emma. I don't think that memo board is the same thing - even if you could use it that way - I've got a cork memo board at home, but I do use it just deco - for pictures and bits etc!
