I have trouble explaining it, but it means a man and a woman who have been married to each other exclusively (not a second marriage for either one) but who are now separated by the migration (or perhaps have reunited through family reunification programs. There are more married Ecuadorian women living away from their spouse than there are Ecuadorian men; and more Moroccan men living away from their wives (almost all the Moroccan women in Spain are living there with their husbands). Clear as mud!?

I just don't get this. Are there any other clues? Do these married people (African men, Latin American women) come in without their spouses and expect to bring them in at a later date? Otherwise one would expect them to be about even!
