Explanation:
Quando Hernán Cortez iniciou a conquista do México no século XVI, para motivar suas tropas e evitar deserções ele ordenou que seus navios fossem queimados, para que não houvesse possibilidade de retorno. Seria vencer ou morrer. Penso que, neste caso, a tradução é literal.
