rigorous imprisonment

Ι just explained to Ermeinondas why I am against <καταναγκαστικά έργα. because it isnt applicable to all categories of prisoners those who are physically unfit or suffer from specific diseases will have to undergo different kinds of punishment, e.g. denial of sleep and such like. What is asked for in this context, to my thinking, is a more general term. Let me suggest < επαυξημένη ποινη >

Hi, Ellen, thanks for the discussion. "Rigorous imprisonment" is a term used in Indian courts to describe a sentence. I have found some answer but I also asked the other translators in ProZ.com to make sure I will translate the term correctly. It is not about "rigorous"= δριμύς ή αυστηρός.

I am at a loss to understand what you all look for an interpretation of the term asked for. for me it is evident that the asker wants a translation of <rigorous imprisonment> rather than an explanation for what is understood by this term.
