within the framework of applicable legislation

Explanation:
I would use "legislation" instead of "laws", just a stylistic thing, sounds more elegant.

Asker: Thank you too, Paul. I think your answer is equally valid, but I opted for a bit of "poetic freedom" and chose "in compliance with".

agree  Adam Kiolle: Depending on the jurisdiction and the type of legal system, the laws in question might not (necessarily) be based on legislation (consider law set by precedent e.g in England, the US, Australia etc.). "Laws" is more general, and therefore safer!

agree  Michèle Voyer: agree with legislation (it is a general term, it means all the pertinent laws and includes other types of norms). It has nothing to do with elegance, legal language requires precision.

neutral  writeaway: I think scope is more accurate. compliance may be implied but it's not stated. of course we aren't exactly being overwhelmed with context./within the framework/context/scope. mMn, compliance is taking it a step further.

-> In this (admittedly quite scarce) context, I beg to (slightly) differ. The German "die klinische Studie wird im Rahmen der geltenden Gesetze durchgeführt" (see clarification by asker) does mean "... is conducted/carried out in compliance with...".

agree  Ted Wozniak: a little latitude is almost always called for when translating the oft overused phrase "in Rahmen der/des"
