Dar din ce zice şi Wikipedia, reiese că trebuie să fie semi-hard to hard brânza în cauză, ca să fie feliabilă, că altfel e sfărâmicioasă.

Oricum, sigur trebuie tradus tot printr-o denumire generică, fiindcă orice traducere printr-un anumit tip de caşcaval (Ceddar, Emmentaler, Gouda etc.) ar fi inexactă, fiindcă ar exclude alte tipuri de brânză, care la noi sunt considerate tot caşcavaluri. De asta până la urmă cred că tot Wikipedia îi zice cel mai corect: generic name for all ***semi-hard yellow cheeses*** such as the Swiss Emmental cheese, the Dutch gouda and the British Cheddar, or anything that looks similar to the caşcaval.
