Un vrai bonheur

English translation: A natural paradise

19:00 May 7, 2009
French to English translations [PRO]
Tourism & Travel / Campsite website
French term or phrase: Un vrai bonheur
In the middle of the Home page of a campsite's website. The campsite is naturist, in the south of France, and is a particularly tranquil, natural, family site - no kids' clubs etc, just naturist walks, pétanque, the pool (of course), and the beautiful surroundings.

The top of the page gives a general description - no. of pitches, site facilities, surrounding area. The bottom announces the birth of a new member of the family. And in the middle, alone, this phrase, in capitals with an exclamation mark.

Obviously, I don't need A translation, I need THE translation - it's clearly meant to sum up the essence of the place.

Thanks in advance for your inventiveness and bilingual copy-writing skills.

English translation:A natural paradise
Explanation:
My home town in Autralia has a sign at the entrance saying "Paradise by the Sea" which dates from the 1930s. Nobody has even taken it down, because it seems so true. A similar formulation could work here, depending on the location of the site.

Situated towards the end of a vast sweep of sandy shell-strewn beach, and overlooked by low cliffs, this picture postcard village is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. With its whitewashed houses, and red-brick pub, standing literally at the water’s edge, there can be no more beautiful a location in the whole of the UK.

A truly good time.

Explanation:
More simply said...An honestly good time or a truly good time.

If this is the phrase that you want people to remember then it should be simple and sweet and easy to remember. Leaving the memory behind when finished with the ad. Placement and intonation for the words plays a part in what is said.

There is an ad here that says>>>for the time of your life. This phrase is attempting to convey the same idea. However, the phrase "For the time of your life" is already taken.

neutral  Tony M: Maybe Felicity Kendall would; but I still can't help feeling this has too many connotations of self-sufficiency and oatmeal socks to really work for a naturist site.
2 hrs
-> oatmeal socks? you know your stuff Tony!

neutral  Vicky James: not to mention electricity generated from pig slurry... It's a shame though cos otherwise this one (for me) does encapsulate the whole "non consumerist" ideal and low-maintenance leisure that this campsite appears to be offering.
13 hrs
-> well I'm not sure that "the good life" is restricted to environmental concerns and TV sitcoms, for example, I'm sure Ronnie Biggs was living 'the good life' in Rio all those years ago...
