Ondanks de vooraanstaande rol in de markt waren de resultaten niet bevredigend. Dit lag naar mijn mening vooral aan het feit dat een goede organisatie ontbrak en er te weinig bekend was over de klanten

lacking of good organisation and client understanding volgens mij, maar de klant wil dit anders vertaald zien.

to my ears 'lacking understanding' would be more appropriate as a translation of "te weinig begrip"

You can phrase anthing that indicates a lack of knowledge about their customers. if you want to be really technical than you could say that they did not understand/know their market,.
