I am actually translating a document from English into Russian. I have come across a phrase "prepared slices of Chinese crude drugs" like the one in the Drug Administration Law below:

Supplementary Provisions
Article 102 The terms used in this Law are defined as follows:
Drugs refer to articles which are used in the prevention, treatment and diagnosis of human diseases and intended for the regulation of the physiological functions of human beings, for which indications, usage and dosage are established, including Chinese crude drugs, ***prepared slices of Chinese crude drugs***, traditional Chinese medicine preparations, chemical drugs substances and their preparations, antibiotics, biochemical drugs, radioactive pharmaceuticals, serum, vaccines, blood products and diagnostic agents.

The word "slices" does not make sense to me here. Obviously, the document is a translation from Chinese and I tried to find the source. Since I do not know Chinese, I cannot match Chinese source with the English translation.

I have found the term 中药饮片 here: http://www.hbsz.gov.cn/a/2007/8234444968.htm.

Is there any other translation of the term (I have also come across "cut Chinese crude drugs" or "Chinese cut crude drugs")? Could you explain, what it means? Are the plants and some raw material of animal origin sliced/cut?

In traditional Chinese medicine, we call the 中药饮片 as processed materials. Upon doctors prescribed the medicine, the assistant do not give patients raw materials (e.g. herb, insect shell, dried plants), but these treated pieces, patients will have to use these pieces to make a soup, and drink it for curing the disease.

I consulted the TC doctors in my hospital, and they tell me that.
