German term or phrase: Karbonverkleidung
This is from a young adult novel set in a US high school. I presume Karbonverkleidung means something like carbonised cladding or panelling, but there must be a proper term for it. Thanks!

The character's are describing another character's motorbike, a Honda Firestorm.

"Du hast ganz schön an ihr gebastelt, oder?" Tyler's Blick wanderte anerkennend über die mattschwarze schimmernde *Karbonverkleidung*."

carbon fairings
Explanation:
Simply do a Google image search for "carbon fairings" and the first results you get are of motobikes! Strictly speaking you'd have to call it carbon fibre composite (or CFRP) but it's commonly referred to just as "carbon".

agree  Marina Koutraki: BUT in singular! carbon fairing.. "fairings" can refer to the fairing of more than one motorcycles. as I see it, a motorcycle fairing can consist from more than one parts, i.e. singular.

-> A motorbike (or bike) never only has one "fairing", even a one-piece Verkleidung (i.e. on a recumbent bicycle) is referred to in plural, and motorbikes typically have a set of fairing.
