Hi guys.

Full paragraph in Child Care Leave regulations (standard format used by many private labor consultants, but I can't seem to find in English. An example is here: http://www.ohno-jimusho.co.jp/business/download/1_06.doc - if anyone has Eng translation, I will be dancing all around my office today!):

請求の日後に請求に係る子が出生したときは、請求者は、出生後2週間以内に会社に時間外労働制限対象児出生届を提出しなければならない。

I found a template in Japanese for what seems to be this form (時間外労働制限対象児出生届) on the MHLW site: http://www.mhlw.go.jp/general/seido/koyou/ryouritu/kiteirei/...

Can't see it there in English, however.

Was thinking of "Notification of Birth of Child to Whom Limitation on Overtime Work Applies," but if anyone has a better idea (or better still, an official translation), I am all ears.

Explanation:
This type of worker previledge is regulated not by a company's arbitoray rule, but by Japan Labor Standard Law.

I don't think there is any "official" translation.
My answer is longer than I want but necessary information is covered.

I think "limitation" is too literal. What 制限 meant in this case is "to be exempted from overtime works." If you like your friend's suggestion I also suggest you would make it more concise.

OK if ... 時間を超えて時間外労働をさせることはない is what original says, then overtime work limitation is correct, and your friend's suggestion is well taken. Although I see nothing wrong about "restriction" if used to explain in the cotext of the following part you quoted ("not in excess of 24 hours per month, and/or 150 hours in a given year"). Asker: Thanks humbird. Yes, "overwork" would be somewhat inaccurate in this case. Thanks for your suggestion.

Asker: Thanks again humbird - appreciate it. "Limitation" is used because the regulation states: 「...事業の正常な運営に支障がある場合を除き、1ヶ月について24時間、1年について150時間を超えて時間外労働をさせることはない。」 "Exemption" may be misinterpreted as not being subject to any overtime. This is not the case, as you can see. Apologies for not providing more info at the start!

Asker: Hmm, actually you (and he) are right: lets go with "restriction" here. Any way you can post another suggestion so I get the chance to select it for the records? (still finding my way around Proz!)
