German term or phrase: Abgaben (in this context)
from a Swiss rental agreement:

I know "Abgaben" has a katrillion meanings and is undoubtedly in every dictionary or glossary ever produced in the history of the world. But I always hate to see this word:

Fees?
Taxes?
Charges?

I guess it's particularly confusing as "taxes" can even be a possibility as mentioned. And they have a perfectly good word "Steuern", you know? I guess it makes the language more colorful to have more than one word for something:)

Better to laugh than cry, I suppose.

Thanks, Andy.

I've been using "levies" ever since. I'm glad such a neutral term could be found.
